Barbara Anselmi is the composer of the new musical, It Shoulda Been You, which will open on Broadway this April. Based on an original concept by Anselmi, ISBY had it's U.S. premier at the George Street Playhouse starring Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris and Lisa Howard, directed by David Hyde Pierce. It was also produced at The Village Theatre in Seattle Washington (spring 2012). Anselmi composed The Orphan Train (book and lyrics by Susan Nanus, published by Samuel French. She also wrote the music for an adaptation of A Christmas Carol starring Lynn Redgrave and F. Murray Abraham for The Acting Company Salon Series. In New York her songs have been heard in the Merkin Concert hall series Bound for Broadway, the York Theater's NEO 2 concert, The Songwriter's Showcase for NAMT, Monday Night New Voices, Musical Mondays, the Unsung concert series at the Lucille Lortel and at the New York Theatre Barn new composer series. Barbara is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop. She earned a bachelor of music from NYU and has also worked as an arranger, orchestrator and music director for many shows, readings, workshops and benefits in NY.
